Sensitive Claims
Have you or someone you know experienced a sexual trauma? If so, Psychology Associates can help. A number of our clinicians are registered with ACC Sensitive Claims to provide treatment for people who qualify. In fact, one of our newest clinicians — Paul Knox — has just been accepted to do Sensitive Claims work and is currently available for referrals.
Here is some basic information that will hopefully answer some of your questions about the process of making a Sensitive Claim:
1. ACC stands for Accident Compensation Corporation, and this is an organization affiliated with the NZ government that “can help people with a physical and/or mental injury suffered as a result of sexual abuse or sexual assault.” See the ACC website for more information:
2. According to ACC’s current system, all new clients who lodge a Sensitive Claim are eligible for up to 16 support sessions from an approved clinician. During this time, the client can determine if they wish to apply for more sessions, which is done in conjunction with the clinician.
3. For some people, the support sessions are all they want or need and can prove to be very useful. For others, longer term treatment is necessary.
4. ACC funds part of the cost of sessions with a psychologist, with the balance payable at the end of each session.
